Week 3 Feb 2- 8th

Good Afternoon,

Monday- Snow Day

Tuesday- Today Cumberland Valley had a 2 hour delay due to the cold temperatures, this decreased class time to 26 minutes. I started off the morning with my facilitating my first leadership class. Unfortunately I wasn't able to really do anything because we were on a shortened schedule and the students needed to finalize record books.
During AFNR we were able to wrap up the notes we were working on Friday. Students researched information, presented it to the class and then a added any additional material that was missed but originally included in the material. The class went well and I had few behavior issues as I kept students busy things moving.
In landscaping I presented a powerpoint on Edible Plants it was fun as I had students look up samples of edible plants which worked out well. I am surprised how students are having issues to creating their designs to scale so I am trying to help them individually as they need help. Working one on one is helpful and then they can help other students.
Again in SAE the students worked to finish up their record books.

Wednesday-Snow Day.

Thursday-
2 Hour Delay..Today I was really able to introduce myself to my Leadership and SAE classes. I started the day off with my leadership class as we discussed the basics of communication and discussed the difference between verbal and non-verbal and the basic elements of both. This went well and I think students will be receptive to what I have planed for the unit. I did notice that I will struggle with interruptions from the seniors in this class. AFNR went well as we were in the lab. Students were only able to scratch the surface of the lab but they seemed to be doing well. It is a huge struggle with this class to give directions and have them follow them as the labs are complicated however I have been told it is designed that way for students to ask additional questions as they go. I have discussed with Ms. Romberger about possible solutions. We came up with giving out question cards for teacher and groups to make the students think about what they are doing and make their questions more meaningful. We also discussed the possibility of implementing Popsicle chores for students who finish up early. The challenge is to develop chores that require little question. Landscaping went well as we discussed best practices for landscaping and the benefits of the different seasons. I posed lots of questions to discuss the material and the students did well answer the questions as they were very knowledgeable. In SAE I was able to introduce my expectations for the class and was firm about what I expect from them when they come to the class. As I observed I didn't care for how the students were disengaged and didn't check into the class. I am hoping this class can be very successful as they can really grow as a students and FFA members.

Friday-
Sub Plans Written while at Record Book Contest.
The record book contest was an interested and worthwhile experience. We were able to meet with other teachers and learn more about programs from across the state and other students SAE projects. By helping to score the SAE books I think I will better be able to help prepare students in the future.
